A juice cleanse doesn't 'reset' your metabolism or flush out fat

Any weight lost on a juice fast is mostly water and gut contents, not fat

Juice cleanses promise a metabolic reset and rapid fat loss, but the biology doesn't support either claim. Your metabolism doesn't need resetting - it already adjusts continuously to what you eat, and a few days of juice only signals it to slow down slightly to conserve energy, the opposite of a boost. There's no switch inside the body that a juice fast flips.

The weight that drops during a cleanse is real, but it's mostly water, glycogen (each gram of stored glycogen holds roughly 3 grams of water), and reduced gut content from eating very little fiber and solid food. Actual fat loss requires a sustained calorie deficit over time, and a 3-5 day juice cleanse simply isn't long enough to meaningfully change body fat, even though the scale moves.

Juice cleanses also strip out fiber and often protein, meaning you lose the satiety and blood sugar stability that whole food provides, which is part of why the lost weight tends to reappear quickly once normal eating resumes. If the goal is genuinely losing fat, a sustained, moderate calorie deficit with whole foods works better and is far easier to maintain than repeated short cleanses.
