Technique
The banded push-up is a regular push-up with a resistance band stretched across the upper back and held under each hand. The band adds the most resistance at the top, where push-ups are normally easiest, so it is a simple way to progress push-ups when bodyweight alone becomes too light.
Steps
- Wrap a resistance band across your upper back and hold one end under each palm
- Get into a push-up position with hands slightly wider than shoulders and body in a straight line
- Lower your chest toward the floor with elbows at roughly 45 degrees to your torso
- Press away from the floor against the band until your arms are straight
Common mistakes
- Letting the hips sag as the band tension builds
- Shortening the range and stopping well above the floor
Variations
- Banded push-up with feet elevated
- Banded push-up with a pause at the bottom
