Technique
The kettlebell floor press is a chest press done lying on the floor, holding one or two kettlebells with the bells resting on the back of the forearms. The floor limits the range so the upper arms stop when they touch down, which takes stress off the shoulders while still training the chest and triceps.
Steps
- Lie on your back with knees bent, holding a kettlebell by the handle in each hand with the bell resting on the outside of the forearm
- Start with upper arms on the floor at about 45 degrees from your body and forearms vertical
- Press the kettlebells up until your arms are straight, keeping the wrists stacked over the elbows
- Lower slowly until the backs of the upper arms touch the floor, pause briefly and press again
Common mistakes
- Bouncing the elbows off the floor
- Letting the wrists bend back under the weight of the bell
Variations
- Single-arm kettlebell floor press
- Dumbbell floor press
