Technique
The towel door row is a home back exercise where a towel is looped around the handles of a sturdy door, and you lean back and pull your body toward the door. It trains the lats, upper back and biceps along with grip, and you control the difficulty by how far you lean back.
Steps
- Loop a strong towel around both handles of a closed, sturdy door and hold one end in each hand
- Place your feet close to the door and lean back until your arms are straight, body in a straight line
- Pull your chest toward the door by driving the elbows back and squeezing the shoulder blades
- Lower slowly back to straight arms
Common mistakes
- Using a door that is not closed or not sturdy enough
- Sagging the hips instead of keeping a straight body
Variations
- Single-arm towel door row
- Inverted row under a table
