Technique
The resistance band triceps pushdown copies the cable pushdown at home: a band anchored above you is pressed down by straightening the elbows. Because band tension rises as it stretches, the triceps work hardest at full lockout, and the exercise is gentle on the elbows, which makes it good for high reps.
Steps
- Anchor a band high on a door or bar and grip the ends with palms facing each other or down
- Stand tall with elbows pinned to your sides and bent to about 90 degrees
- Push the hands down until your arms are fully straight, spreading the ends slightly at the bottom
- Let the hands rise slowly back to the start without moving the elbows
Common mistakes
- Letting the elbows drift forward and away from the body
- Leaning over the band to push with body weight
Variations
- Single-arm band pushdown
- Band overhead triceps extension
