Technique
Place a resistance band around your ankles or just above your knees and get into a quarter-squat position. Keeping tension on the band, take small steps sideways, leading with one foot and following with the other. Keep your knees bent and your toes pointed forward throughout. Complete the prescribed steps in one direction, then reverse.
Steps
- Position the band around your ankles or just above your knees
- Lower into a quarter-squat with your toes pointing forward
- Step sideways with the lead foot while stretching the band
- Follow with the trailing foot without letting the band go slack
- Complete the prescribed steps before reversing direction
Common mistakes
- Allowing the knees to collapse inward
- Bringing the feet together and losing band tension
- Taking steps that are too large to maintain the quarter-squat
- Turning the toes outward while stepping
Variations
- Above-knee band lateral walk
- Ankle-band lateral walk
- Forefoot-band lateral walk
