Technique
The band good morning is a hip hinge with a resistance band looped under the feet and around the back of the neck or shoulders. The band gets harder as you stand up, which suits the strong top position of the hinge, and it is a joint-friendly way to train the hamstrings and glutes and to practice the hinge pattern at home.
Steps
- Stand on the middle of a loop band with feet hip-width apart and place the top of the band across the back of your shoulders
- Soften the knees slightly and brace your core
- Push your hips back and lower your torso with a flat back until you feel a stretch in the hamstrings
- Drive the hips forward and squeeze the glutes to stand tall against the band
Common mistakes
- Rounding the back instead of hinging at the hips
- Bending the knees so much that it turns into a squat
Variations
- Band good morning with a pause at the bottom
- Single-leg band good morning
