Technique
The landmine Romanian deadlift is a hip hinge with one end of a barbell anchored in a landmine or corner and the other end held in front of you. The arc of the bar keeps it close to the body, making the hinge easy to learn while loading the hamstrings and glutes in a long stretch; it also works well as a single-leg version.
Steps
- Stand facing the free end of a landmine barbell and hold it with both hands at hip height
- Soften the knees and keep them in that position
- Push the hips back and lower the bar along the thighs with a neutral back until you feel a strong hamstring stretch
- Drive the hips forward to stand tall, squeezing the glutes
Common mistakes
- Squatting down instead of pushing the hips back
- Rounding the lower back at the bottom
Variations
- Single-leg landmine RDL
- Barbell Romanian deadlift
