Technique
Place your hands on an elevated surface such as a bench or step. Keeping your body straight, lower your chest to the surface. This angle reduces load on the upper body, making the movement more accessible. Press back up to the start.
Steps
- Place your hands slightly wider than shoulder-width on a stable elevated surface
- Step your feet back until your body forms a straight line from head to heels
- Brace your core and bend your elbows to lower your chest toward the surface
- Keep your elbows angled slightly back as your chest approaches the surface
- Press through your palms until your arms are straight
Common mistakes
- Letting the hips sag or pike
- Flaring the elbows directly out to the sides
- Lowering the head instead of the chest toward the surface
- Using an unstable or unsecured elevated surface
Variations
- Bench incline push-up
- Step incline push-up
- Wall push-up
- Close-grip incline push-up
