Technique
Start with the kettlebell between your feet. Hike it back, then explosively pull it straight up close to your body. Punch your hand through the handle at the top to lock out overhead in one continuous movement. Lower it back between your legs for the next rep.
Steps
- Stand over the kettlebell with your feet about shoulder-width apart and hinge to grip the handle
- Hike the kettlebell back between your legs while keeping your spine neutral
- Drive through your hips to propel the kettlebell upward close to your body
- Punch your hand through the handle as the kettlebell rises past shoulder height
- Lock out your arm overhead with the kettlebell resting softly on your forearm
- Guide the kettlebell down close to your body and hinge into the next backswing
Common mistakes
- Pulling primarily with the arm instead of driving with the hips
- Letting the kettlebell swing away from the body on the ascent
- Allowing the kettlebell to flip over and strike the forearm
- Overextending the lower back in the overhead lockout
Variations
- Dead-stop kettlebell snatch
- Hang kettlebell snatch
- Double-kettlebell snatch
- Half-kneeling kettlebell snatch
