Technique
Lie on your back with the kettlebell pressed overhead in one hand. Follow a series of controlled steps to move from lying to standing while keeping the bell locked overhead at all times. Reverse the steps to return to the floor. Move slowly and deliberately at each stage.
Steps
- Plant the kettlebell-side foot flat while extending the opposite leg
- Roll onto the opposite elbow and post firmly on the hand
- Drive through the planted foot to lift your hips into a high bridge
- Sweep the extended leg underneath you into a stable half-kneeling position
- Square your hips and rise to standing with the kettlebell overhead
- Reverse each position under control to return to your back
Common mistakes
- Allowing the kettlebell-side elbow or wrist to bend
- Letting the loaded shoulder shrug or drift out of alignment
- Failing to lift the hips high enough before sweeping the leg
- Rushing transitions and losing balance under the kettlebell
Variations
- Bottoms-up kettlebell Turkish get-up
- Dumbbell Turkish get-up
