Technique
Pinch two weight plates together between thumb and fingers (or grip one plate by its edge) and hold it off the floor for time without letting it slip. Builds the pinch and finger strength for hook and grip control.
Steps
- Press the plates together with the smooth sides facing outward
- Pinch the plates firmly between your thumb and fingers
- Lift the plates clear of the floor
- Hold your wrist in a neutral position
- Maintain the pinch for the prescribed time
- Lower the plates under control
Common mistakes
- Hooking the fingertips under the plate rim
- Letting the plates rest against the thigh
- Allowing the wrist to bend excessively
- Losing even pressure so the plates separate
Variations
- Single-plate edge pinch hold
- Two-plate smooth-side-out pinch hold
- Two-handed plate pinch hold
- Plate pinch carry
